Excerpt:
He stepped through the crumbling stone and into what someday he hoped would be the gallery to showcase all of the family portraits. A woman was crouched in the middle of the expanse, crying. He approached slowly, carefully, expecting the apparition to disappear. But as he closed in on her, his skin began to leap and charge with expectation. His heart pounded, his blood pumped. “Hannah?” He knew that it was, even before she lifted her head.
Her head snapped up. “Lock?”
“Aye, lass, what are ya doin’ here?” he asked, both baffled and exhilarated to see her.
She stood wiping at her eyes, blinking. “Llachlan?” she said again, in surprise. He nodded, watching her. “You’re here.” She shook her head as if bewildered that he would be. “What happened here?” she cried, gesturing to the ruins around them.
“What happened?” he questioned, shaking his head, not knowing what she was talking about.
“When I was here, the hall was beautiful.”
Apprehension crawled coldly across the back of his neck. “When were ya here?”
“Last week,” she sputtered.

I love time travel stories. Love that he was trapped in a portrait. That's a twist I don't see much and it opens the door to both tragedy and humor. Good job!
