Please welcome fellow Canadian and Total E-Bound author Nancy Adams to Pick a Genre Already.
What was your favourite book as a child/teenager?
Lightening
by Dean Koontz. It’s not a romance book but it is still one of my all time favourites.
That budding romance between the main characters was simple but at the same
time touching. The action and comedy was pretty great too.
Who was the first author or what
was the first book you read that introduced you to the genre that you most
enjoy writing in?
Actually,
I began writing romance at first and I hadn’t read anything by an erotic
romance author. I enjoyed reading Johanna Lindsey, Iris Johansen, and Julie
Garwood. I still like reading books by those authors. I made my jump to the
erotic romance when Total-E-Bound Publishing accepted my first book. My then
editor said I needed to smut up my story so it fit within their guidelines. Sooo,
I did... and here I am writing... as my brother affectionately refers to as Chic
Porn. LOL
Do you believe in love at first
sight? And if so have you ever been so afflicted? Did you do anything about it?
(Did you go for it?)
Yes, I
do believe in love at first sight and of course, I went for it... I married him!
Is there a particular word you
overuse or writing technique that your editor(s) ride you about? Mine is over
using the word ‘harshly’.
Yes. I
have done my fair share of over used words, in one book it was ‘gently’, another
it was ‘frowned’. However, IBP’s or ‘Independent Body Parts’ has topped the
list. I have this way of detaching body parts like hands or eyes and allowing
them to do their own thing.
For
example: His hand touched her cheek.
Sounds
okay, but if you picture it in your head, a hand is floating in mid-air and it
touched a woman’s cheek all by itself. That’s freaky and cool! Lol
I do my
best to catch all those nasty IBP’s but some still slip through.
Have you ever suffered from
writer’s block? (Or do you even believe in it?) If so, how were you able to
overcome it?
Oh man,
have I ever!
I
overcome it by reading what I have already written or I switch off and work on
a different storyline. Or sometimes I have a shower. Lol For some reason I get
a tone of ideas when I’m in the shower. I know, I know I’m weird, but if it
works, who am I to argue.
If you could live anywhere in
the world, where would it be?
Well, I
have to say I’m pretty happy living in Canada. But if they decided to give me
the boot, I’d hop across the pond and shack up in merry old England. Or
Scotland, Ireland, Wales. I’m not picky. Oh... Germany and France too!
I'm with you, Nancy. Scotland/ England/Wales for me, too. (I think our roots are showing)
If you could bring one of your
own characters to life, who would it be and why?
Hmmm.
That’s a great question. I guess I would have to say William MacKenzie from my
up coming book The Bannockburn Spell. He’s tall, dark and dreamy plus is a
soldier, well ex-SBS. I have a real soft spot for Army... or in this case Navy
guys.
What are you reading right now?
I am
reading Simply Irresistible by Rachel Gibson. She is such a great author. Her
books always make me laugh.
If you were to do a reality
show, which one would it be?
I don’t
watch reality shows so I don’t know much about them. But I have seen Fear
Factor and the Japanese show MXC; now those shows I would do, they look like
fun.
What is the craziest, most
exciting, or most dangerous thing you’ve ever done?
Sorry,
I was sworn to secrecy by the other parties involved. LOL
Name a celebrity, athlete,
musician, etc. you’d most like to get naughty with.
Dwayne Johnson |
Do you
want name for every category... lol
Okay
how about I combine them. Dwayne Johnson. Yum... yum... yum! He
was or maybe he still is a wrestler and he played football for the Calgary Stampeders. He’s an alright actor and I heard he can sing. I get my cake and to
eat it too... teehee... you know what I mean.
I have to agree with you Nanc. I love his smile. I mean, he has other fantastic body parts too and we should regale them at great lengths, but that grin... just does it for me! The man could talk me into anything! You are not the first of my guests to mention what the Rock is cookin'! Are you all doing the eyebrow thing now?
Do you have family Christmas
Traditions that you observe every year?
When
it’s closer to Christmas, my husband and I bundle up our kidlets and take them
for a night-time walk to see all the neighbour lights. Then we go home, have a
fire and drink hot chocolate while watching Christmas shows or a Christmas
movie.
What is your favourite Christmas
Carol/song/hymn?
You’re
probably going to laugh, but it’s Holly Jolly Christmas sung by Burl Ives. I
always remember trying to sing along with it at the end of Rudolph the Red Nose
Reindeer. I butchered the words of course. I still sing it when I watch it with
my kids. They think I’m amazing because I know the words.
Share with us a special
childhood Christmas memory (favourite toy, special moment that you now
treasure, best gift either given or received)
Real Tree or Artificial?
Artificial... but I wish they
came with a scratch ‘n sniff or something, I love the scent of pine from a real
Christmas tree.
Star or Angel?
For the top of the tree... has
to be a Star
Hot Chocolate or Egg Nog?
Mmm... Hot Chocolate... with
Marshmallows...
Holiday Fanatic or Scrooge?
Holiday Fanatic... except when
it’s time to pack things away, then I wish I was a Scrooge Lol
What can readers look forward to
next?
My next
book The Bannockburn Spell is due out in January 7th. Woo hoo! It’s a Contemporary Erotic Romance
mixed with some fantasy and fairytale elements. I can hardly wait. This is my baby;
it’s the first book I ever wrote.
Please tell us about your newest
release.
My newest
release The Soul Within is a Paranormal Erotic Romance. But don’t let the Paranormal
fool you, it’s not just all about ghosts. It has medians – which I have defined
as a soul that is separate from it’s body – both good and bad, lost souls,
angels, a really bad... bad guy and of course a woman that doesn’t age and oh
yah... she can sometimes see the dead.

Blurb:
Alex’s body is in a coma. His
soul, however, is not. Desperate to become whole, he must first convince
stubborn beauty Evening Sinclair that he is not dead.
For
generations, the Sinclairs have been healers. Using a gentle touch to heal the
body and a soothing word to heal the soul. Evening Sinclair is no different.
Yet despite her secret abilities, Eve has a somewhat normal existence. She enjoys
her small physiotherapy practice, dotes on her eight-year-old daughter and
occasionally helps souls get back into their bodies—that is until Alex, with
his brooding good looks and glowing eyes, appears in her kitchen.
Naughty
Excerpt from The Soul Within
She enjoyed soaping his body, even
though she wished it was his body she was touching. When she closed her
eyes, she could still see him lying in the hospital bed, the hard strength in
his arms and shoulders. See the rippled muscles of his stomach and the dark
hair covering his chest and face. She opened her eyes as she lathered his back.
Cade had a nice body too, but it was not Alex.
She turned him around and began
soaping his chest and shoulders. Covered his arms and hands, stroked his palm
and pulled gently on each finger. Moved to his hips and knelt down, running her
hands down the length of each leg. When she cupped him, she looked up and
watched his face. His only indication that he liked what she was doing was the
flaring of his nostrils. She stood and nudged him under the water and rubbed at
his body to help remove the soap. She moved her hand to his now hard cock and
stroked the length of him. God, he smelt so good, clean and manly. She pressed
her mouth to his chest, swirled her tongue over his wet skin. Oh man, he tasted
good too.
She glanced back up to his
face, slowly pumping his shaft. His eyes were glowing but the lids hung low as
he stared back at her. She licked at her lips, her mouth starting to water at
the idea of sucking him into her mouth. He shook his head. She nodded hers.
Then dropped to her knees and took him into her mouth.
He tasted good, so good. She couldn’t get enough. The need he triggered deep in her soul was heating her
body up. She sucked hard, sliding up and down and received a growl for her
effort. Then, she was lifted by her arms and Alex was crushing her mouth with
his. He clasped her head between his hands and pulled back panting. “You make
me…I want to…I don’t know how…” He stopped and took a deep
breath.
Eve placed her hands on his cheeks
and, in an effort to calm him, adjusted her voice, “I know. It’s the same for me.”
He shook his head, still confused
and pulled her forward, crushing her against him. His mouth was hard and
demanding. She allowed him to take whatever he needed.
He surprised her when he turned her
away from him and placed her hands on the wall. His hands were all over her,
cupping and stroking, gliding down her waist to her hips, then behind. Then,
slipping his fingers between her legs, he parted her creamy lips. She groaned
and rocked her hips back pushing her backside against his thick cock. She felt
him drop his head onto her back as he toyed with her entrance. She rocked her
hips again, not able to help herself.
“Fuck.” He groaned and,
grabbing her hips, plunged deep.
She moaned from the sudden heat of
his invasion. His hands never ceased their carnal torment, moving over her body
greedily, squeezing and caressing, setting her skin on fire. He fondled her
breasts, pinched her nipples, kissed her shoulders. His arms wrapped around her
and he pulled her back against his chest, his breath hot in her ear as he moved
in long, so-slow strokes. He slid his fingers back into her slick folds and
moved them in lazy circles. She came almost at once, grinding her hips back
against him.
Alex grunted in frustration as he
withdrew from her body. He grabbed her shoulders, turned her to face him and
forced her hand to his cock. “Finish me, Eve.”

Author
Bio
Besides
her addiction to trash novels and bed linens, Nancy has been known to
spontaneously rearrange furniture and stay up to the wee hours of the morning
reading. Writing is a new passion for
Nancy, which began in 2008 with 'hobby' writing courses, while her husband was
deployed.
Nancy's
favorite genre...is anything romance related, although she does enjoy a good
laugh. As for her own novels, she
demands three elements, intrigue, humor and a good dose of naughty scenes.
Her
other hobbies include, walking the dogs, running, and painting (not on
canvas...the house). Nancy lives in
Eastern Ontario with her family and two furry beasts.
Thanks for joining me today, Nancy. Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays!
Hi Nancy, loved the interview and The Soul Within sounds like a great read. You can't go wrong with a footy player. I love Dean Koontz too - love a good scare. Bit disappointed not to see Australia on your list though ;)
ReplyDeleteCheers
Donna
Hi Donna,
DeleteI would love to sink my claws into Australia, I just thought you guys were to smart to let a crazy brod like me in! LOL
Thanks for coming by and have a great holiday!
Hey H K,
ReplyDeleteWhat a great blog! Thanks so much for having me today.
My Pleasure, Nancy. {Waves}Down under, Donna.
ReplyDeleteSee not so scary having two Canadians in the room at the same time, there's always cold beer (a Molson Canadian, of course) and hot poutine. LOL (Are ya rolling your eyes yet, Nanc?) ;0
Mmm beer and poutine...LMAO
DeleteHow did I not know that The Rock played for the Stamps!?
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your interview!
Fellow Canuck,
Celeste
I had heard this before. My son is a huge CFL fan. But I didn't know how long The Rock played for them. I did a little research on that. He was only on the practice roster and got cut from the team, he was never even assigned a number. :0 But it also sounds like (if you can believe what you read) that his agent at the time urged the then coach of the Stamps to cut Dwayne from the team, because they had other plans for him to follow in his father's footsteps as a wrestler to the WWE. But did you know that Dwayne's father Rocky Johnson is Canadian? Born in Nova Scotia.
DeleteThanks for stopping, Celeste!
Great interview, Nancy! Congrats on the new release. I laughed at the Christmas tree comment. I agree, they need to come out with and artificial tree that smells like a real one.
ReplyDeleteThe book sounds great and the excerpt was hot!
The Soul Within is definitely going on my TBR list :)
